PRESS RELEASE

“Organic Harmony” showcases a selection of Vorja Sánchez’s key works from the past year and a half, featuring hundreds of interconnected, intricately designed creatures.

In Organic Harmony, Sánchez’s signature visual language balances vibrant creativity with meticulous technical detail, his strange and beautiful creatures seem to leap from one work to the next. Full of references to legends and ancestral traditions from diverse cultures, each piece invites closer inspection, enticing viewers to lose themselves in the detailed, hidden stories and relationships between creatures and the biomorphic forms surrounding them. Sánchez draws inspiration from natural organic forms and the detailed studies of 19th-century biologists like Ernst Haeckel. By analyzing natural patterns, the artist uncovers a harmony in randomness, using this balance as both a creative foundation and a metaphor for life.

Sánchez has employed a wide variety of mediums in creating this collection; graphite, ink watercolour, gouache and spray paint all find themselves onto the page, combined in fluid dialogue. Of his process, the artist says, “I have allowed the technique—like a dream I couldn’t fully recall—to take control at certain moments, even permitting accidents. In resolving the unpredictable organicity of a blot, drip, or texture, I moved away from routine or overly mechanical processes, striving for purity over technical control.” The result is a series of works that feel both spontaneous and meticulously crafted, full of creatures that feel at once familiar and uncanny, an ode to nature and the subconscious.
