Vorja Sánchez is a Barcelona-based, full-time artist renowned for his intricate, dreamlike compositions inspired by nature. His work merges fantasy with scientific observation, drawing on organic forms, ancestral myths and the studies of 19th-century biologists.

Sánchez draws his inspiration from springing life into natural history illustrations; blooming new and surreal life into the biotic and abiotic facets of the natural world and its histories. He imagines vast ecosystems and new worlds. He plays with patterns and motifs that carry across whole series of works, and employs these themes across many concepts throughout his artistic career

Sánchez shares that by studying recurring patterns in nature, he’s learned to identify the biological purpose of many shapes and forms, which influence how he selects a particular characteristic for a single creature. He states, “There’s a harmony in what might seem like randomness, and above all, nature doesn’t care about scale or importance—everything exists on the same level and is balanced. It’s a concept that fascinates me and serves as a profound metaphor for life.”
